NAHT Cymru comments after Senedd elections

Commenting after this week’s Senedd elections, Laura Doel, director of the school leaders’ union NAHT Cymru, said: “NAHT put schools and children at the heart of the 2021 Senedd elections. We issued our manifesto outlining our priorities for education: well-being, curriculum reform, funding, additional learning needs (ALN) and accountability. We put tough questions on these vital matters to candidates in closely contested seats at hustings we hosted throughout Wales, and aspiring Senedd members were among the many who joined the #NAHTCymruPledge.

“With the votes now in and results in the bag, the new Senedd members must keep the momentum going. Now is the time for them to talk to us about how these asks can be achieved and to adopt these priorities for the future of education in Wales.”

Kerina Hanson, president of NAHT Cymru, said: “Today marks a new start. Education forms the foundation of the future of Wales – its prosperity and ability to sustain itself. Our school leaders, their staff and our pupils deserve to be at the forefront of policymaking and investment.”
