NAHT comments on exam grades this year

Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “Students will have been expecting to go through a very different process to the one that has played out because of Covid-19. However, under the circumstances, whilst not a perfect solution, this the fairest and most pragmatic alternative to sitting exams.

"Of course, as every year, there will be instances where students are not content with their final result in August but schools and colleges will again step up to support their students, offering them advice and helping them to progress to the next stage of their education or training.

“We would like to see employers, universities and other places of work and study playing their part in supporting this year’s alternative arrangements, so that students can have confidence that their hard work will be valued in the same way as in previous and future years.

“NAHT will continue to work with Ofqual in the days and weeks ahead.”
