What Life Membership is
Whether leaving a labour of love or embracing a life of leisure, there can be no doubt that retirement from school leadership marks a huge change in lifestyle.
From having a very busy school leadership role to potentially having time to fill and maybe a sense of not belonging, NAHT is there to help you with it all. We provide support for you in getting ready for leaving the profession you’ve served for many years in terms of pensions, ideas for using your time and preparation for the next phase of your life.
We also recognise that when the organisational structures of school are no longer part of your life, you may still want to be part of a wider group of retired professionals who support members or just meet up socially.
Life Membership is about bringing all of those opportunities into one place and to ensure preparation for this new life doesn’t start the day you retire.
We work with our NAHT partners to provide webinars and advice on, for example, how to invest your lump sum - and this work starts as early as the age of 40. Preparing for life after work has to be planned for if we are going to enjoy a happy, healthy and fulfilled retirement, and NAHT are here to support you with this.
Why Life Membership?
NAHT Life membership gives you the opportunity to continue your membership of the biggest union for school leaders both in post and in retirement.
NAHT Life focuses on helping retired members receive excellent trade union services and allows you to continue to play an active volunteer role within NAHT Regions and Branches, if that’s what you choose to do! NAHT and its members benefit from your experience in the same way that you will have benefitted from experienced leaders and NAHT members in the past.
From time to time, life members need their trade union to support them over historic cases stemming back to your school career and NAHT can only do this work if you’re a life member. With the cost of a barrister upwards of £300 per day it makes sense to ask your trade union to protect you.
To ensure that you don’t miss out on all of the rich reservoir of resources available to life members, please ensure NAHT has your correct post-retirement contact details.
Please note to qualify for the benefits of NAHT life membership you must join NAHT life membership within six months of retiring.
NAHT is constantly reviewing, renewing and refreshing its services to support NAHT Life Members and if you have any suggestions as to how things can be improved then please do contact us.
