Commenting on new research from the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL) published today (Thurs 21 January 2021) that shows only 3% of school business professionals identify as being part of the BAME community, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders' union NAHT, said:

“It is important for all children to have positive role models from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities. This helps to break down stereotypes and prejudice, and encourages children to broaden their horizons and ambitions and fulfil their educational potential.

“Diversity is as important for school business professionals as it is for other educational leaders as it shows children a variety of career routes, and because a range of backgrounds and viewpoints should be embedded in every aspect of school management and practice.”
