We write to update you on the latest discussions between NAHT, the Welsh Government and local authorities (LAs) on school reopening plans.

After weeks of discussions, it is disappointing that there is still no agreement between the Welsh Government, LAs and some trade unions on what reopening will look like, including whether schools will extend the summer term by an additional four days.

This afternoon it was confirmed that it will be down to LAs in Wales to decide how schools will reopen and set their own term dates.

As a result, plans for schools to return have been thrown into confusion again, with just over a week left until schools are proposed to reopen.

School leaders and families are desperate for some certainty so that they can create meaningful plans together.

In a crisis like this, we will not achieve perfection, and we should be exploring the art of the possible in the interest of children.

NAHT saw much of the minister’s plan as a pragmatic attempt to move the situation forward for learners. What matters now is that we quickly identify a consensus that supports education.

This news will come as little consolation for those of you who are still unable to proceed with publishing a final plan.

Ar ôl wythnosau o drafodaethau, mae'n siomedig nad oes cytundeb o hyd rhwng Llywodraeth Cymru, ALlau a rhai undebau llafur ar sut olwg fydd ar ailagor, gan gynnwys a fydd ysgolion yn ymestyn tymor yr haf o bedwar diwrnod ychwanegol.

Y prynhawn yma cadarnhawyd mai mater i ALlau yng Nghymru fydd penderfynu sut y bydd ysgolion yn ailagor, yn ogystal â gosod eu dyddiadau eu hunain ar gyfer tymhorau.

Oherwydd hyn, mae cynlluniau i blant ddychwelyd i’w hysgolion unwaith eto’n ddryslyd, gydag ond ychydig mwy nag wythnos tan y dyddiad arfaethedig i ysgolion ailagor. 

Mae arweinwyr ysgolion a theuluoedd yn ysu am rywfaint o sicrwydd, fel y gallant fynd ati i wneud cynlluniau ystyrlon.

Mewn argyfwng fel hwn nid oes modd cyflawni perffeithrwydd, a dylem fod yn ceisio anelu at yr hyn sy’n bosibl er budd plant.

Roedd NAHT yn gweld llawer o gynllun y gweinidog fel ymgais bragmataidd i symud y sefyllfa ymlaen i ddysgwyr. Yr hyn sy'n bwysig nawr yw ein bod ni'n canfod consensws sy'n cynorthwyo addysg, a hynny’n gyflym.

Nid oes llawer o gysur yn y newyddion yma i'r rhai ohonoch sy'n dal i fethu mynd ati i gyhoeddi cynllun terfynol.

Rydym yn rhannu eich rhwystredigaeth a'ch pryderon y bydd oedi a diffyg cysondeb wrth weithredu ledled Cymru yn cael effaith negyddol ar ein dysgwyr.  

Mae NAHT yn parhau i fod yn ymroddedig i wneud popeth o fewn ein gallu i fod yn gefn i chi, gyda'n tîm yng Nghymru wrth law i ateb unrhyw gwestiynau sydd gennych, a gweithio gydag undebau llafur a'r cyflogwyr i ganfod datrysiadau lleol.
