NAHT comments on Thank a Teacher Day

Commenting on Thank a Teacher Day on Wednesday 23rd June 2021, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders' union NAHT, which represents leaders in the majority of schools, said:

“Schools have been crucial hubs of support for the community throughout the pandemic, from keeping the country going by looking after key worker children, to literally delivering food for children at times. Thank a Teacher Day is an important moment to recognise the amazing lengths staff have gone to this year to preserve the education of children and young people.

"There is no doubt that this vital work helped to shield large numbers of children from the worst effects of the pandemic.

"School leaders already have their eyes on September and beyond. The hard work and dedication of teachers, leaders and other staff will be needed once again in the next academic year. It is essential that the government’s recovery plans meet the needs of all pupils so that staff can get on with what they are best at – helping pupils to succeed, day in and day out.”
