NAHT Cymru comments on GCSE results day

Laura Doel, NAHT Cymru director, said: “This has been a summer of uncertainty for secondary students and they deserve our congratulations for the results that they are receiving today.

“Teachers and school leaders throughout Wales have worked hard to make sure that their students each have a set of grades that reflect their hard work.

“Students should have faith in these results, as should the nation as a whole, because they have been compiled with the integrity and professionalism of those who know them best, their teachers.

“Our work to ensure 2021 does not see the same disruption and uncertainty as this year is just beginning and we welcome the review announced by Education Minister Kirsty Williams this week to find out exactly what went wrong with the process this year. There are some difficult conversations to be had but we owe it to next year’s students to be prepared and start the hard work now to avoid future disappointment and heart-ache. To put young people through this once is devastating, but to allow the same thing to happen again would be unforgivable.”
